The Historic Hospital District has chosen the home of Dale and Gail Walsh at 1711 Sunnybrook in Irving as their “Yard of the Month” for November. The home sits under a grove of native oak trees. Entrance is through an arched gate into a courtyard featuring a pool with waterfall. In front of the home are informal beds of golden coleus and hibiscus in red and gold along with permanent plantings of berried youpon holly trees and spots of red yucca.

The selling point for the Walshs’ when they bought the house many years ago was the treed back yard. It is a treasure with swimming pool, hot tub (which Mrs. Walsh uses daily), and a state of the art outdoor kitchen (which Mr. Walsh claims).

Among the plantings are Encore azaleas in full bloom and pots of begonias. A fountain featuring a child helping another up to drink is the finishing touch for this idyllic setting.
